Start researching colleges!
Talk to your parents and high-school counselor to begin to identify colleges to meet your needs –– academic, extracurricular, social, geographic, spiritual, and financial. Get more insight about particular colleges from their websites and college guide books. Our website has a great list of college resources.
No clue about where you’d like to go to college? Then make an appointment for an initial consultation with me –- I have firsthand knowledge of hundreds of colleges all over North America!
Start planning now to use your days off from school and Spring Break to visit colleges.
Make an appointment to meet with me so I can teach you the best techniques for effective college visits, ones that will enable you to stand out and connect with admissions officers, thus improving your chances for admission.
Head to Office Depot to purchase your BIG PLASTIC FILEBOX for all that fan mail you’ll receive from colleges.
Keep your college stuff in one place! Folder files will really help you stay on top of the process. Expect to get a lot of mail and email from colleges (many likely already have your address and email from the College Board), and keep it all in ONE PLACE for easy access.
Cultivate relationships with two current teachers who you’ll ask to write college recommendations at the end of the school year.
Cultivation = actively participating in class, showing intensive interest in the subject, seeking out these teachers to discuss relevant topics in greater depth, and doing your best work in their classes.
Set up your SAT/ACT testing calendar for the balance of this school year and investigate your need for SAT Subject Tests (required or recommended by more competitive colleges).
