A Few Reflections on the Recent College Admissions Rigging Scandal
It’s a certainty that the thoroughly unscrupulous, greedy firm that just got caught bribing officials, rigging test results, and fabricating athletic backgrounds in order to get students admitted to selective colleges isn’t the only one engaged in those practices. The concept of “consultant” may draw more than skepticism, but we unflinchingly acknowledge that in our 30+ year history, our college support has been exemplary in every way.
We’re proud members of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) whose statement on the recent scandal can be found here. As such, we adhere to the highest ethical standards and agree wholeheartedly with IECA that our fundamental role “…is to help students explore college opportunities and find the right place for them to succeed academically and socially.” We don’t get students admitted; we “help students demonstrate why they deserve to be admitted at appropriately chosen schools” and “help students find colleges they might not have heard of…and…put their best foot forward.”
That said, competition to gain admission to selective schools is fiercer today than it has ever been, and we take pride in the fact that we are, have always been, and always will be an association of professionals who help students and parents identify good-fit schools – our founder/owner/principal is a Certified Educational Planner – and then assist those students in marketing themselves to those schools in ways that have proven highly effective — in fact, so effective that we’ve helped 95% of our counseling student clients get accepted by one of their top-choice colleges.
After the dust of the scandal’s allegations, indictments, trials, and tribulations settles, we’ll be here. As always, helping students and their families achieve their educational goals based upon the very best practices.
